International News

In the first weeks of May this year one of our members visited the Cagayan valley in the north of the Philippine Islands.

A decision was made to take two AA big books on the trip with the hope that they might be left there in the hands of someone who may need them ,or perhaps to someone who might use them to help others.
A lot of searching and talking finally produced a most worthy recipient in a gentleman by the name of Henri Belisi.

Henri was well aware of cases of locals dying from alcoholism before age 30;he reported that often little could be done for these individuals, and that AAs message of hope had not been heard of in that remote province.
He was very happy to receive the two books and had that valuable local knowlege of where best to place the second book.

Contact is to be made to our Australia Oceania Section Delegate to seek support for Henri and our member is back in contact with him to send some basic AA literature to him;the group handbook,is AA for you?etc.
Henri was very pleased to receive and study the book and has expressed a keen interest in trying to get an AA group going in his locality.

Updates on the issue will be posted

On the national international scene:
Each year on June 10,AA Auastralia holds its 'Founders Day' collection within our fellowship to boost the international literature funds. A traditional recepticle,a brown paper bag,is sent to each group as a reminder of the date and purpose, and a request/suggestion is made by AA Australia that the group collection for that week is donated. Our group decided to participate again this year.
Seeing it as a very worthwhile opportunity to expand our 12th step activity. We had personal anonymous donations added to the normal collection for that week, bringing our collection to a total of $128.30.This money will be forwarded to the General Service Office of AA Australia(national office)
